Counselling provides a safe and confidential space in which to share your innermost thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes distressing emotions get buried or repressed into the unconscious part of our mind, and may then be triggered by other related situations faced in the present.  Consequently we can find ourselves reacting emotionally to people or situations that unconsciously remind us of difficult past situations. These kinds of connections can be discovered during therapy and can bring much needed clarity where there has previously been confusion and distress.  It can then be easier to recognize old patterns and consciously choose different responses, ensuring a better outcome.

For some people, however, it is not always beneficial to revisit painful past memories, especially in the case of trauma, so I am careful to work with each individual in a way that is safe and appropriate for them.  You decide what you are comfortable talking about and what issues you want to explore.  Some people prefer to stay focused on present issues and future possibilities, instead of the past, and that’s okay –  I am alongside you to support you and offer insight and encouragement throughout your own unique process.
